Cultural Event
SWAN uses the book Lucy Shook's Letters from
Afghanistan as a tool for
fundraising. Lucy Shook
spent five years in Afghanistan working for AID in the mid
‘60s. Her letters home
articulate her desire to help the peasant people with whom she
associated. The book provides a springboard for presenting to the
public the need of greater assistance to developing countries. The 45- minute multi-media
program “Letters from Afghanistan” takes excerpts from Shook’s
letters and combines them with home movie footage and
slides from her work in Afghanistan forty years ago. It is an enlightening
and heartwarming program. An overview of outreach
efforts follow, and the presentation finishes with a music video of
the children that have been helped through the projects of
Opportunity Fund for Developing
Countries. If you are interested in
hosting an event, please contact
us.
