The majority of SWAN’s funding comes from Addy’s Patty
Wagon. It is a
concession trailer I purchased to teach my children to work and to
manage a business. (Addy is my oldest daughter, and she was
mortified when I gave it her name.) When I saw what a good
fundraiser it was, I began using it for SWAN by serving lunch and
dinner one day a week in town. This allowed us to fund the setup of
our sister organization, CISNE (Swan in Spanish) in Bolivia. The Patty Wagon is a great
way to let the public know about our work. I have a licensed kitchen in
my home where I bake cookies and fresh-ground whole wheat bread to
sell. This gives me a
connection with the women we serve in Bolivia.

They understand
that the money that funds their little lunch stands is earned
one hamburger at a time and that I get up early to bake just
like they do.
There is a mutual respect and bond between us, though
we may be strangers. |
